The newest option in free camping in the town of Kenai Alaska is found in the parking lot of the new Kenai Walmart. I was suprised at how few folks were taking advantage of the free camping being offered to patrons of this world class store. Convenience and free camping all in one location is
Located at the new light on the Kenai Spur Highway behind Pizza Hut. Camping is available on the grocery outlet end nearest the Spur Highway side between the Walmart building and the large grass lot. There are no tables, no electric hookups, no dump station and no open fires but the free camping price tag reflects this. What you do have is 24 hour access to everything you need for fishing, camping, and enjoying the Kenai just inside the front doors. There is a well lit area for walking and for safety, there are other people around all the time entering and exiting the store.
